WCA C-Suite Session – Year End Planning

The Washtenaw Contractors Association has introduced a new member benefit: the C-Suite Sessions.
The C-Suite sessions will be focused on subjects of specific interest to the top management people in your firm. The topic for the second C-Suite Session will be Year-End Planning: Implementing Financial & Legal Best Practices, and will feature a panel discussion with leading experts in this field (see below.) Registration will be limited so everyone will have an opportunity to have their questions and concerns addressed.

STEVE MIHALIK is a shareholder at Doeren Mayhew with more than 25 years of public accounting experience. He is a trusted advisor to closely held businesses in a variety of industries including general contracting, heavy highway and specialty trade contracting. Working alongside these clients, Steve leverages sound accounting practices, risk-based assurance procedures and innovative tax planning strategies to help them meet their financial goals. Additionally, he provides valuable insight to his clients as they start-up, sell or transition their businesses; deal with banking decisions or prepare for states’ Department of Transportation (DOT) prequalification process.
DAVID RITTER is a shareholder at Doeren Mayhew and a director in the firm’s investment bank Doeren Mayhew Capital Advisors. Working alongside domestic and international companies, he is known for providing financial analysis to help businesses build strategies and move quickly towards goals. David provides a multitude of advisory services to clients, including merger and acquisition guidance, business valuations and strategic planning. From prospecting merger opportunities for clients, to establishing effective financial and operational negotiations for new business, to deal closing and post-merger integration, he is completely hands-on in the entire merger and acquisition process.
ED BOUCHER is a construction lawyer with Kotz Sangster who helps his clients’ projects become successful by implementing sound legal practices. Over the past 20 years, he has worked with numerous contractors and owners on various projects of all sizes. Ed works with them in the project planning and negotiation phase to identify and reduce risk, and in many cases, to help them structure their overall approach to the project. Additionally, he offers problem-solving assistance during projects to help manage difficult brewing claims, as well as long after the project to resolve claims.
LISA WHITE is a shareholder at Tax Point Advisors. Lisa has performed hundreds of Research and Development (R&D) Tax Credit studies along with many other tax credit programs, including the Qualified Therapeutic Discovery Project credit/grants. Due to her in-depth R&D tax credit knowledge, she is often called upon by various associations across the nation to speak on the topic. Prior to joining the firm, Lisa gained experience working for a Big 4 and large Midwest firm, where she was responsible for managing the R&D tax credit practice, saving clients in excess of $20 million.
LISA WILMOT is a member of the Hylant Surety Team which provides surety services to contractors. Leveraging her experience and the 132 years’ combined experience of her team, she is able to assist construction companies in all areas of surety including contract, license and permit, notary, public official, probate and other court bonds. Her goal is to provide an effective and responsive surety program for a wide variety of Hylant clients across the country through an established network of 30+ surety companies and specialty brokers.
MODERATOR: SANDY KOWALSKI is a business development advisor at Doeren Mayhew, where she helps coordinate in the development and execution of the firm’s overall strategic growth plans. Sandy collaborates with firm professionals across all departmental and functional disciplines to develop and nurture relationships with existing and potential clients, as well as the external professional community that serves them.
