Construction managers plan and direct construction projects. They may hold a variety of job titles, such as construction superintendent, general superintendent, project engineer, project manager, general construction manager or executive construction manager. These men and women manage, coordinate and supervise the construction process from conceptual development through final construction. They must be able to understand contracts, plans and specifications; and be knowledgeable about construction methods, materials and regulations.
Would you enjoy working in a fast paced environment? Are you decisive and able to work well under pressure? Would you like coordinating several major activities at once, while analyzing and solving problems? If you answered yes to all of these, have good communication skills and can work with many different types of people, you may want to pursue this challenging career. Prepare while in high school by taking math, science, business and computer classes. Enroll in your high school building program. While in high school and college, gain as much industry related work experience as you can.
